Go to Disneyland or Buy a Boat?
If you were asked "would you rather go to Disneyland or have a boat?" what would your answer be?
A family vacation for 4 people to Disneyland is going to cost on average anywhere from $4,246 - $9,032 (according to Champion Traveler).
We have this brand new Crestliner fishing boat for $18,995. If we round that up to $20,000 (for ease of math) with a 10 year loan and an interest rate at 5%, the monthly payment would be $212!
Or you could look at a bigger Crestliner that would be a great fishing boat, but also work as a tow boat for tubing that's more around $50,000. A 12 year loan, 5% interest rate, leaves a monthly payment of $462!
A brand new surf boat could run around $70k. With a 15 year loan and a 5% interest rate, you're looking to pay about $79 per every $10k. So, a $70k boat is going to cost about $553 per month. $553 multiplied by 12 months is $6,636.
You could spend $6,000 (or more) to take your family on a vacation that will last a week. Or you could spend that much over the course of a year and have family boating vacations whenever you want (weather permitting).
This math is based on loose variables. They are figures taken from an outside source and everything is up for argument. But the numbers are there. If you have a family of more than 4, then the numbers really prove their point. Going to Disneyland, a trip to the East Coast, a trip to anywhere... is going to cost a lot for a whole family.
