Can a South Bay Pontoon Boat Pull a Wakeboarder?
There are still plenty of misconceptions about pontoon boats and I'd like to clear up a few of them. People often ask about what pontoons boats "can do". They can do a lot more than you think!
Pontoon boats have an odd reputation for being these putt-along, slow boats. Pontoon boats will fly with the right motor! This South Bay has a 300 HP Mercury Verado which can easily take you up to 40 mph! So clearly the answer is yes, pontoon boats can pull skiers, tubers, and more.
South Bay Pontoon Boats
South Bay pontoon boats are the industry leading pontoon. The interior is top quality (especially in the 500 series), the three tubes that make up the hull (tritoon) distributes weight evenly which means it can handle more horsepower, and there is no family member who is uncomfortable on this boat.
Every South Bay has a side door which means if you have any elderly family members joining you on the water, you can pull the boat right up next to the dock making it very easy to board. Children and dogs are also safe on these boats because of those high walls. If you have people who like to go fast, the 300 horsepower should be plenty! If you want to leisurely skim around the lake for the day, those bimini covers make comfortable shade.
Tritoon or Pontoon?
Quick note, if a boat has three tubes it's technically a "tritoon" while those with two are "pontoons". Often times we refer to all hull types like this as pontoons, but technically these are tritoon boats.
So Can it Pull a Wakeboarder?
We recently had a customer telling us about their 200 series South Bay boat. They told us about a day on the lake with 11 people in the boat AND pulling a wakeboarder at the same time! Their boat has a 150 horsepower (half the size of the 500 series) engine and it was still able to easily pull a wakeboarder and keep all other 11 people comfortable in the boat.
Now, of course in a pontoon boat you aren't going to get that giant wake/wave like you would in a Supra, Moomba, or Tige but if you're just looking for a good time and not competitively making jumps and flips, it's still fun to wakeboard behind a South Bay. Not to mention this lack of wave makes for great skiing too! You can pull people on tubes, go fishing, bring a bbq grill and have a picnic on the water... these boats are more versatile than often given credit!
I vehemently suggest you let us take you out on one this summer. Bring the whole family to make sure everyone likes it. I'm sure they will. South Bay pontoon boats are the best family boat money can buy.
